The article outlines the main problems of long-term distance learning: the unwillingness of specialists to use all the technical capabilities of educational Internet platforms as efficiently as possible; lack of independent work skills of students; low motivation to study in a distance format. The main directions of work on the development of independent work skills are outlined: cognitive (working with a significant amount of information, highlighting the main, elocation, summarizing, summarizing the material); metacognitive (goal setting, planning, presentation of information) and increasing motivation for self-development. The results of the survey of teachers of higher educational institutions, school teachers on the awareness of the main components of independent work, forms and methods of skills development are presented. The primary reason for the decrease in motivation is highlighted: lack of interest, obsolescence, irrelevance, excessive “classicality” of the studied material. The components of successful distance learning are systematized. The proposals of interactive forms of work on the development of independent work skills are presented: the use of social networks, gamification, various games, competition in group work. The possibility of increasing the efficiency of distance learning through the formation of independent work skills is proved.
