Philosophical understanding of reflection: historical and systematic analysis

Abstrakt

This paper presents a comprehensive historical and philosophical analysis of reflection as a fundamental principle of philosophical thinking from antiquity to non-classical philosophy of the twentieth century. Through systematic analysis of primary sources and contemporary research, the study traces the evolution of reflection from Socratic self-knowledge through Cartesian methodological doubt to Husserl’s phenomenology and existential philosophy. The research employs historical-philosophical, systematic, hermeneutical, and comparative approaches to examine how the understanding of reflection has transformed across different  philosophical traditions. The paper demonstrates that reflection serves both as an ontological characteristic of consciousness and as a methodological tool for philosophical inquiry. The ontological and epistemological status of reflection in the history of philosophical thought is revealed through analysis of key philosophical systems and their interpretations of reflexive thinking. The specific features of reflection interpretation in different historical epochs are analyzed, revealing its significance for the development of philosophical knowledge and human self-consciousness. Special attention is paid to the transformation of reflection understanding in contemporary philosophical discourse and its role in interdisciplinary research. The research methodology combines traditional historiographical analysis with modern interpretative approaches, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of reflection’s evolving conceptualization.
